No Fate But What We Make
After watching all 3 Terminators last week we finally went to see Terminator Salvation this afternoon. It wasn’t as cheesy as I expected it to be, being the 4th of the series. It was action-packed & but really not much of a storyline, maybe they should’ve brought back the synthesizer background music to enhance the movie. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it due to our thrill of sneaking in a free Harvey’s hamburger ontop of getting our free popcorn (Thankyou Oatmeal Crisp cereal!). Nothing beats getting FREE food! It was fate. Fate that we made by purposely buying the cereal flavour that had a free coupon. It was also fate that we made by choosing to watch Terminator today which also happens to be free hamburger day @ Harvey’s, which also happens to be at the same building complex as Cineplex. Isn’t fate so awesome?
Today is such a gorgeous day - I hope it stays like this for the rest of the week!
Happy REAL May 2-4 =P
May 2-4
At this time of the year back in Toronto if I wasn’t participating in fireworks I’d be watching or at least lying in bed listening to the fireworks goin off in my neighbourhood. Not sure why the huge difference - but May long wkd this year just didn’t quite feel the same. Maybe it was because May 2-4 was for some reason a week earlier this year. Or maybe…ohh wait - yes, yes I do know - VANCOUVERITES DON’T CARE TO CELEBRATE THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY. Here the usual May 2-4 festivities simply do not exist - the fireworks-playing is instead on Halloween. SO WEIRD. Why do Vancouverites celebrate the devil while Ontarians celebrate May Long? Beats me. But in Toronto, May 2-4 is a weekend for partying, drinking, and fireworks.
The end of May is approaching fast - time for some big decisions to be made.
Identity Crisis
So the last week has been pretty eventful. Wednesday morning Dave & I headed out to visit Wai Goh in Seattle & to shop for Mother’s day presents. Little did I know that I would be stopped at the border with US Customs questioning my identity and it went a little something like this:
Border Guy scans Dave’s passport - no problem.
Border Guy scans my passport - “Miss, where’s your green card?”
me: (thinkin huh wth is a green card??) “I don’t have one”
Border Guy: “Did you ever live in the States?”
me: (starting to freak out) “No”
Border Guy: “When did you last live in the States or moved to the States, where’s your PR card? According to our records you have a green card.”
me: (really, really confused) “No I was born here and never left or moved to the States I don’t have a green card”
me whispering to Dave: “wth is a green card??!”
Next thing he scribbles “confirm identity” on a sticky note & orders us to go inside to be checked. Here I was standing in line nervously thinking OMG did someone steal my identity, I’M the real RJW, not the psycho killer who stole my identity to get into the States. An hour of paperwork later, it turned out that it wasn’t me, but DAVE with the identity crisis. Gonna keep my last name forever now, hehehe.
We took a tour of Microsoft and behold: a keyboard-button-vase-thing on display in the art gallery where all the artwork is done by a staff member of MS. Who would’ve thought of such a design other than a MS nerd. =) Behind it is a ball apparently made of guitar strings.
Here we are in the MS library - filled with nerdy computer books and only nerdy computer books. Some were even free to take. Thanks for the tour Will, and the “free” drinks, and my “souvenir” pen.
In other news, this weekend I broke my own dieting rules and went for AYCE sushi - not the best decision considering it didn’t taste as good as I expected it to be. That, plus eating @ 10:30pm just made me feel extra guilty. I was so full that I basically didn’t eat until dinner time the following day. No more AYCE for a while.
On Sunday I missed my mama lots because of Mother’s day. I also missed Wiggy and since he’s a 5 min drive to Luke’s and my mom is a 5 hr plane ride away, I opted to go visit Wiggy - though he wasn’t aware that my ultimate agenda was to gain Cricut knowledge from Luke’s mom! She taught me that cardstock is easier to fold with the grain than against the grain. Who knew! I sure didn’t. Thanks Luke’s mama! Btw, she calls him Lukey. AWWW!
Field of Dreams
I’ve been dreaming recurring situations for about a month now.
Why do we always want what we can’t have?
P.S. I can’t draw ants.
If Unsatisfied, Cut it Off
I’ve recently made a couple purchases that I liked, but not love:
Item 1 - I’ve been looking for a pair of shoes for my bridesmaid dress and I before I even headed to the mall I already envisioned what my sandal would look like. To my surprise, I found exactly what I was looking for @ Aldo - except the sandal had an extra strap that I felt was very uneccesary (oogly). I still bought them, though not completely satisfied.
Item 2 - I’ve been trying to find a cheap bathing suit lately and finally found one the other day and surprise, there are uneccesary bows attached that didn’t appeal to me. Desperate to find one for swimming @ Amrik’s, I grabbed the bathing suit anyway, because there was no way on earth I’d be ruining my nice bikinis in the chlorine filled pool. Needless to say, again I wasn’t quite satisfied with my purchase.
Not REALLY loving my items, I thought of a brilliant solution: if your items don’t come with detatchable straps or bows, take it upon yourself to alter it to your liking. So here I was, tools in hand surgically removing the strap off my brand new sandals. After that I figured hey, why stop there, lets see what I can do with my bathing suit. A couple mins later I had myself a bikini to my liking. Moral of the story - when in doubt, cut it off.
On a side note, swimming @ Amrik’s new place was pretty cool. Sadly, not even 10 mins into the pool yet and there was bloodshed already. We love youuuuu!
